If you had a chance to watch any TV over the busy holiday weekend, hopefully you caught some of the Cool Tools Holiday Blitz Marathon that ran all day long Thursday thru Sunday. If you missed it, not to worry there will be a full hour of Cool Tools on each night at 8:00 pm est all December long.

In addition to being a great show to pick up some gift ideas for the holidays, Cool Tools would also like to put a lot of cash in someone’s stocking. Register on DIYnetwork.com for free and you could win $15,000 cash. To increase your chances you can register once per day through December 29th.

Well, that was quick. See, I can actually get things done pretty quickly when it doesn't consisting of banging my head against machine code until it starts making sense. When I actually have the drivers, things like this are easy.

You can use the Hold button to toggle between the menu items (and the option will be highlighted). You can choose the home button to select it. The "openiboot console" option takes you to the command-line interface similar to the one I demonstrated in the last post (you do have to be plugged in via USB and using the openiboot client to talk to it). The "iPhone OS" option chainloads a copy of iBoot stored in NOR under another identifier ('ibot' becomes openiboot and 'ibox' becomes the actual iBoot). I got that set up with a slightly modified version of the QuickPwn ramdisk, but in the future an installer made from a modified version of LogoMe can be run from userland to install openiboot. It's also possible to get openiboot to install openiboot (much like the way GRUB can do it); I'll probably work on that next.

So if anyone likes living on the bleeding edge, they could do that. =P

Most of the hard part was me failing at GIMP putting together the boot menu graphics. I appealed to you blog readers for graphics before, but basically no one responded. Now that there is a working model of what I sort of want, I hope there will be more of a response.

So, please please please redesign the boot menu for me. And possibly come up with a logo for the project we can stick on there. If you're good at this sort of thing, or know someone who is, please put them in touch. This stuff will obviously get a lot of attention in the future and we need nice eye-candy. Thanks!

In a new turn of events after the judge dismissed Psystar's anti-trust claims, Apple is now on the offensive, accusing them of being associated with a group of shady John Does breaking the law:

18. On information and belief, persons other than Psystar are involved in Psystar’s unlawful and improper activities described in this Amended Complaint. The true names or capacities, whether individual, corporate, or otherwise, of these persons are unknown to Apple. Consequently they are referred to herein as John Does 1 through 10 (collectively the “John Doe Defendants”). On information and belief, the John Doe Defendants are various individuals and/or corporations who have infringed Apple’s intellectual property rights, breached or induced the breach of Apple’s license agreements and violated state and common law unfair competition laws. Apple will seek leave to amend this complaint to show the unknown John Doe Defendants’ true names and capacities when they are ascertained.

In other words: There's somebody else behind Psystar. Someone who is worth prosecuting by Apple's mighty lawyers. Groklaw says that this is important because it may explain why Psystar has been ignoring Apple and continue to boldly sell their crappy PCs running Hackintosh, a hacked Mac OS X version that runs in generic Intel hardware.

Apple is also asking for a preliminary injunction against all Psystar activities related to Mac OS X. Groklaw speculates that the people and corporations behind Psystar may be important and that, when Apple finally identifies them, they will obliterate them. [Groklaw via MacRumors]

In the Air Impact Wrench world the term “MAX” by Ingersoll Rand have been associated with the top performing tools for many years now. The introduction of a brand new “MAX” 3/8” ratchet 1207MAX-D3 ($138, Ohio Power Tool) carried with it some big expectations. We had a chance to demo this tool recently and decided to put it into the hands of someone who could really get some mileage out of it in very short order.
